I tend to write like I speak. I pause there in speaking, so the comma is appropriate to me.

Sorry! :( I even work on a newspaper where I regularly cross out Oxford commas, but I always use them in my personal stuff.

When I took communications I was told you had to use them, so now I'm just used to that and can't write any other way.

You're not totally alone. I think they look clumsy, but that's how I was originally taught and old habits die hard. XD

you are not alone, i'm not fond of them as well! in portuguese they don't look very good so i transfer that to writing in english as well.

I hate how they look, but I was taught to use them, so I catch myself falling back on old habits if I'm not paying attention. :(

THE OXFORD COMMA IS IMPORTANT. HATE HOW IT LOOKS ALL YOU WANT, BUT IT CAN CHANGE THE MEANING OF A SENTENCE AND THUS I WILL CONTINUE TO USE IT.

Newspapers and such have a lot of guidelines that aren't used in regular writing.

OMG DUN YELL AT ME. :(

i'm willing to negotiate on them when necessary, if the meaning's ambiguous otherwise, or if it's a long list with multiple "ands" or whatever. but a basic list of tom, dick and harry will never be "tom, dick, and harry" as far as i'm concerned. :D

No yelling, I am just very PASSIONATE ABOUT THIS, bb.

(Not really. I am armchair passionate.)

It weirds me out to not see a second comma in that Tom, Dick, and Harry list.

there was no click box for "no fuck given about an oxford comma," but that is actually my vote.

Unless whatever is following the conjunction can work as a sentence on its own I find the use of a comma pointless.

There isn't a 'sometimes' option! I use it when it makes the sentence clearer. I'm sure it's worse to use it sometimes than to just pick a side, LOL. But I can't help it!

I remember how we weren't supposed to use them in journalism to save layout space and it freaked me out. I tend to go comma crazy anyway, so I like them. :)

not gonna lie, it would take a crowbar to pry me away from my oxford commas. i think it's b/c when i was in elementary school we were taught to use them, but then when i got older all of a sudden there was this rule change and they weren't necessary anymore. that just seemed wrong to me so i refused to let them go. if it had been the other way around and i had been taught not to use them, i bet seeing someone use them would look wrong to me. i often do things like this though: "we went to the store, the salon, around the corner, etc." no ands or oxford commas, just a random etc. at the end. pretty much avoids the whole thing but i have a feeling it is technically not proper.

i have bigger grammar battles to fight within myself though, like conquering my addiction to ellipses. and semi-colons; i use those a lot too. (c wut i did there? lol.) problem is when i lay off the semi-colons i tend to replace them with a comma; i know it's incorrect but i do it anyway and i don't know why. it irks me to see it done too much, yet i only add to the problem. oh, and starting too many sentences with 'and,' when it should only be used as occasional emphasis. i should also lay off the fragments too, but 95% of the writing i do these days is just blogging or posting comments so proper grammar, punctuation, capitalization, ETC. (jeebus help me) tends to fall by the wayside. (i think i miss the days when i used to care.)
