item 1 is because it's an issue that comes up in my life every now and again, and while i have a definite answer that seems obvious to me, i've noticed that not everyone agrees. item 2 is because over my past couple of years on twop, between blake and carly and now david, i've seen what seems like a disproportionate number of people who are somewhat vehemently anti-tattoo. item 3 is the same general concept. i'm just curious, because i always find myself going "holy fuck, is everyone on this board, like, 60 years old?" and then i wonder if i'm just the weird one.
also, for question 1, since i phrased it stupidly - would you choose to wait outside somewhere where you have a pretty okay chance of meeting them OR would you choose to go see them perform in a place/situation where you are highly unlikely to meet them?

Date: 2008-08-09 10:34 pm (UTC)aaaaaaand i put 2 answers down for #2 -- i love Carly's tats, but to me only certain people can pull off large quantities of ink on their bodies.
for the most part i think small, hidden tats are the best (like David's "AC" tattoo on his arm - perfect!)

Date: 2008-08-10 02:15 am (UTC)I'd gen rather see someone play than meet them. Unless certain circumstances. I don't like greet and grins, I don't like waiting outside busses slash venues, or anything like that. And in masses I hate hearing people's retelling of these times. People seem delusional a lot and either see the absolute best or supreme worse in the situations. So n so put their arm around me and omg he touched my waist during the pic and he wants me! Or so n so was rushed and and so rude and how dare they! Its ridiculous. And I've heard the so n sos sides of meeting fans that way and I know its all pretty much a nuisance and a blur. Which is sad. Though, nothing I say is totally true so im not knocking it. If im gonna meet someone I adore I am a brat and want more. I sound like a bitch but it happens.
Tattoos. More more more. I want ngi ne themba tatood. And either a judy garland portrait or some wizard of oz theme. Its all ridiculously lame I admit but I've been thinking about this for a long time. All I have now is a pretty large shooting star. Whatev. I totally judge people on their tattoos and I can only imagine what people think of me or will. This is me though.
And no bueno on david and eyeliner. Some guys are uber sexy though, less often than it was a few years ago. Its dading.

Date: 2008-08-10 04:59 am (UTC)yeah, i'll ALWAYS choose to go to the show. i mean, it's nice to get a chance to meet someone you admire and have a good experience, but it's always SUCH a crapshoot. but musically, the people i love just generally don't let me down.
in any event, when i made the poll, i was thinking specifically about people i know who will make the choice to wait somewhere for a CHANCE to meet someone rather than taking the sure-thing opportunity to see them play, which i will never understand. there are clearly people i'd love to meet, but 30 seconds of anonymous interaction versus actually seeing a show? psh.
i always want more tattoos. i have four and at least two more i'm planning. my poor mother. but i'm getting an angel for my bff who passed away a few years ago, and i'm getting an anchor on the other side (sort of...not a chest piece exactly, but kind of the front of my shoulders?) for my father who died 6 months later. i also kind of want to get something for my mom (who is very much alive, thank god) just so she doesn't feel left out. and i kind of want "our lady of perpetual astonishment" on me somewhere, because it's a vonnegut quote (it's actually on my journal) and i love it.[/ramble]
the eyeliner question was actually in no way about david, lol. i'm just constantly amazed by the number of people who are still actively, like, weirded out by eyeliner on a dude. maybe i should have just asked "are you weirded out by eyeliner on a dude?" and saved everyone some confusion.

Date: 2008-08-10 05:14 am (UTC)i honestly don't think i could respect anyone who chose to meet someone and wait for it during their performance. unless they were really, really more obsessed with the image of the person and could readily admit it, no bueno. i saw that a lot at hanson concerts and it was ridiculous. especially because meeting hanson after a show is probably the lamest of all celebrity encounters.
i never asked you, have you met butch walker?
I LOVE YOUR ICON. i am honored you chose if for my responce if you even put any slight thought into it!!! <3

Date: 2008-08-10 05:20 am (UTC)i have not met butch walker. i've only ever even SEEN him once, about a year and a half ago at the HOB in orlando. i need more butch in my life, but he's never really anywhere i can get to, and i don't really have people to drag with me for the most part. at least not long distances. i have a friend who lives right outside atlanta who loves him, tho, so i'm hoping i can get down there and see him with her some time.
and yes, i gave you that icon on purpose. <3

Date: 2008-08-10 05:47 am (UTC)and let me tell you, you do not need to leave the show to meet him.
the first time i saw him, i did his merch. his manager asked me to wait around after the show. turns out butch met every last person inside, talked to them, took pictures, gave his full attention to every soul who wanted anything from him. at first i was bored, then i started paying attention and it was amazing just to watch him interact. i have never, ever seen that before, before or after seeing him. i still babble about it to this day (obviously). i don't know how long i had to wait and i didn't even know i was waiting for him. he apologized, i praised him, and he kissed me on the cheeks and thanked me again and again, gave me his email, invited me to the bar he was going to (rocket bar, now closed, and i was too young, but he still told me to come and i did and he hung out in the parking lot a little at the bar b/c i couldnt get in). the man is the most sincere, beautiful soul. i think i've met him everytime, sometimes he's drunker than others, sometimes i am. but he's always been the best.
see, i don't think i'd want to see him at a hometown show. i think the smaller the city and farther away from the music industry, the better his shows are. & i don't like seeing my fav bands places where they know half the crowd. i saw him in nashville & chicago a few times and there was always big bands there who worked with him, love him, etc and it's just a different atmosphere. more glossy & plastic. it's interesting to see these bands you know from mtv go fangirl over him, but he seems to have another persona. the pink spyders, sugarcult, kill hannah, i have a vague recollection of fallout boy (or at elast talk of pete in chicago, i was wasted, don't know), etc all at the shows i went to.
so come to st louis and see him. but really, i'd see him ANYWHERE. i'm ready for him to re-announce those dates. & all the reasons i'm hearing now are such BS for him to cancel.
(the first time i met dc he was getting in my car and butch was playing. i realized his love, we bonded, i made him drive. next time i saw him was after all this craziness happened with butch in chicago & i made him look at all the pics and boy has a jealous streak. haha. those few weeks were the best ever)

Date: 2008-08-10 05:02 am (UTC)nah, the question was poorly phrased. i just know some people who will choose to go somewhere and wait for a chance to maybe meet the object/musician/whatever of their affection, rather than taking the sure-thing opportunity to see them play, and i just don't get that. i will ALWAYS go to the show, myself.

Date: 2008-08-10 06:13 am (UTC)#2 - I have no tattoos, but I want two - an angel/cherub on the front of my right shoulder and a little demon on the back of my left shoulder. I've considered getting a tat just above my left breast (not ON the breast b/c OMG that is just too much pain to even think about) with my dad's initials on a ribbon or something like that, but I think I'll pass on that and maybe just put his initials on the angel.
And am I the ONLY person who absolutely paid no attention to Carly's tat like, ever? People either talked about how it was the coolest thing ever or how it was a ridiculous monstrosity that needed to be covered up and OMG hasn't she ever heard of a thing called a SLEEVE??!!11!?1!? I just never noticed it. I never realized it was a geisha till people on TWoP kept going on and on about the face on her arm. Seriously? NOT that big a deal. The thing is, I can remember that the majority of AI's audience is in fact that middle America, whitebread, skewing-towards-conservative/right-wing, Christian sect. But I almost always forget that a lot of TWoPPers are that exact type or quite close to it despite them thinking they are SO much better than the "average" narrow-minded American because ooh, they're on TWoP so they must be cool!
3 - I don't care. Some guys pull it off better than others, of course, but mainly it's one of those things where it's almost never bothered me as long as it's done properly (if it's jacked up then it's a problem), but I don't really pay it much attention beyond, "Oh, he's wearing eyeliner." It's not that often that a guy actually makes me think right away "Wow, you look hot in that eyeliner." DCook, I though it looked strange on him at first, but actually the more I look at the pic with him wearing it the more I get used to it and start to like it. Then you have guys like Pete Wentz, who were just fucking made to wear eyeliner and be ridiculously gorgeous for no damn reason. I swear no other guy on this earth will ever look better in eyeliner than Pete Wentz, and it's definitely a compliment.
Wow, I'm yappy tonight. you'd think I'd use this opportunity to, idk, update or something.
...
eh, maybe later. :-)

Date: 2008-08-12 05:23 pm (UTC)2) i chose "fine on other people, not me," because that is overall how i feel. i will confess, though, that when i dislike someone and find her vulgar and trashy i will include her tattoos in my disdain, like the woman i used to work with who had met a married man at their children's little league practices, and was now living with him, and would not shut up about their sex life and the dopiness of his wife. when she showed up with her new tramp stamp and wouldn't shut up about that either, i mocked.
3) i don't get the weirded out either. i remember helping my sister's friend fred with his eyeliner before the cure show, and that was more than 20 years ago. less age-related than having to do with differences regional, political, musical...?
