people who have twitter: how do you use it?do you only add friends and/or celebs, or do you add random people you find interesting? if so, where do you find them? do you mostly update by phone or on the computer? do you get most tweets sent to your phone, or only a select few? or none?
just curious. the people i follow are all either friends or celebrities. (but random people keep following me and i have no idea why.) and i get texts from the majority of the people i follow. and i hardly ever actually look at twitter.com, so when people i'm not following randomly reply to me i rarely see it. and i know other people follow news feeds and stuff, but i don't bother because i feel like my phone would be blowing up all the time and as i said, i rarely go to the twitter site so it just wouldn't be worth it.
what about you? how do you twitter?

Date: 2009-02-12 08:20 pm (UTC)I follow one community (a large ONTD spinoff that gets a massive amount of posts, and the epic ones are linked on twitter) and few politics/news people (Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow). I set it so I get the updates as texts. For Keith and Rachel, it's a lot like CNN's text alerts, which I also subscribe to, and that's why I follow theirs.

Date: 2009-02-12 08:20 pm (UTC)i get random twitters and followers too, so i protected my tweets when the randoms started to get super annoying.

Date: 2009-02-12 08:21 pm (UTC)I follow friends, a few friends-of-friends, and musicians/industry of interest folks/Cab bots. And Rainn Wilson. So far he's the only not-in-a-band "celeb" I think I've followed that hasn't annoyed me. I don't follow any fictional characters, though I do think it's cute, creative viral marketing to have Betty Draper twittering.
A bunch of random-ass people follow me, including some fansite twitter for Zach Quinto, I guess because I keep seeing him places and I twittered about him.

Date: 2009-02-12 08:32 pm (UTC)I have a group of friends who live together and will tweet eachother when they are sitting next to eachother.. That's sort of obnoxious. But overall I sort of love it.
I had someone request to follow me yesterdat named TAYLOR that follows like 300 people named REESE, guys and girls. Really? That's creepy.

Date: 2009-02-12 08:48 pm (UTC)I do twitter search very often, but even if I loves the sentiments someone is making, I usually won't follow them. idk, twitter search is just fun for scouting how many people and how often something is being talked about.

Date: 2009-02-12 10:46 pm (UTC)twitter is still one of the few places i add people who are just interesting, even if they're not famous or friends. i think bc the interaction seems relatively minor maybe? (my friends list, in comparison, is very small and very much all actual people i know.) but i only get text message tweets from close friends and a few newsy type outlets. still i end up checking at twitter.com bc all the apps in my experience have a tendency to miss things, and the more messages exchanged the greater rate of fail.
eta: i am totally enjoying reading all the responses here.

Date: 2009-02-13 02:23 am (UTC)I use the website and the Twitterific app on my iPhone. I haven't twittered via text in a long time. and since I use the app, I turn my "device" off so I don't get texts all day and night lol.

Date: 2009-02-13 02:50 am (UTC)I rarely go to Twitter.com as well, but that's because I use Twitterfox, so I get a little notification when someone I follow updates. Though I suppose that doesn't help much if you don't use the computer much...
Also, I generally find new people by looking at who my friends follow.
My account is public but so far I don't have anyone I don't know following me. Except for the few random spam ones, which you can easily tell are spam/report to Twitter if they haven't already done it themselves, which they're pretty good about.

Date: 2009-02-13 03:32 am (UTC)Personally, I follow people I know and celebs.

Date: 2009-02-13 03:43 am (UTC)I love Twitter lots because it's easier to get to know people sometimes when they don't post lots on LJ. And a lot of times when I don't want to post, I like to spam Twitter and most of the same people see it anyway so it is awesome.

Date: 2009-02-13 04:08 am (UTC)i actually just privatized my account, and blocked all the random people/companies that were following me. i just feel better that way.

Date: 2009-02-13 04:10 am (UTC)Also, I'm not at my computer very much, and Twitter is something I can do from my phone. :-)
I don't get the updates sent to me, though, because I don't have unlimited texts (I don't think...I'm on a family plan, so I have very little knowledge of what that plan actually contains, lol). I either check the mobile website, or the regular website when I *do* get online.
As far as people go, I don't want totally random people following me (*mildly* random people would be okay, maybe?) so mine is locked. All I've got friended so far are those on my flist who responded to my twitter plugging, Neil Gaiman, and Gabe Saporta. :-D I've decided I need more famous people but I don't know where to find them. (I thought about adding MCR, but I feel like they don't use it very much...?)

Date: 2009-02-13 01:02 pm (UTC)2. So far only people I actually know + 1 celeb (Michael Muhney) and the guy who goes on tour with DCook.
3. Computer only.
so when people i'm not following randomly reply to me i rarely see it.
:(

Date: 2009-02-16 01:13 pm (UTC)i have my rl frenz, a couple lj frenz (you obv) and a few celebs, as well as darth vader, jesus, and santa. lol. i also will add someone i don't know if somebody on my list keeps responding to interesting things they said. (does that make sense??) i update from my phone whenever i'm not at home or on my laptop. i do get tweets to my phone but only certain ones. my phone would srsly implode from the number of tweets i get. D= i get the random ppl and i will go check out their tweets to see if they're worth following back.
i'm not much for tweetciprocity (or w/e they call it when you follow back somebody following you). if i'm following somebody they have to keep it worth reading or i un-follow. lmao.
i use digsby for updating and checking my twitter pretty much all the time. i don't do much time on the actual site.
