people who have twitter: how do you use it?do you only add friends and/or celebs, or do you add random people you find interesting? if so, where do you find them? do you mostly update by phone or on the computer? do you get most tweets sent to your phone, or only a select few? or none?

just curious. the people i follow are all either friends or celebrities. (but random people keep following me and i have no idea why.) and i get texts from the majority of the people i follow. and i hardly ever actually look at twitter.com, so when people i'm not following randomly reply to me i rarely see it. and i know other people follow news feeds and stuff, but i don't bother because i feel like my phone would be blowing up all the time and as i said, i rarely go to the twitter site so it just wouldn't be worth it.

what about you? how do you twitter?

I joined Twitter to follow MCR, lol. And I only have people I actually know friended, plus famous people. I got skeeved by random people following me (and it was always based on something I'd just Tweeted, so I'm sure people can have a Twitter Alert set up for keywords or something on the public feed) so I locked my account.

And I only have a portion of my followers' Tweets sent to my phone because otherwise I think it would explode.

I don't really get the point of Twitter if you have an LJ -- if I want, I can post from my phone to LJ. So idgi. I do, however, have an account that I use to follow certain people.

I follow one community (a large ONTD spinoff that gets a massive amount of posts, and the epic ones are linked on twitter) and few politics/news people (Keith Olbermann and Rachel Maddow). I set it so I get the updates as texts. For Keith and Rachel, it's a lot like CNN's text alerts, which I also subscribe to, and that's why I follow theirs.

I use Twitter for all the random stuff/thoughts that pop into my head that aren't worth a full LJ post (there are a lot). And since I live in Canada, it's an easy way to communicate in a text-like fashion with international friends without the cost of a text. Also, a lot of the people I follow on Twitter don't regurgitate it on LJ, and it's info/interaction I wouldn't have otherwise.

I'll post almost anything I think of in my LJ, no matter how small or random, so. However, the international thing makes sense. I never thought of it as a way to get around those charges :)

i just follow friends and celebrities, except all of the celeb twitters i follow are super impersonal, lol. it's pointless but i like to keep track of all of my statuses and how i felt in the moment, i guess. *shrugs* i update through twitter fox and the web. i used to text and i WANT to text but they cut down that service in canada. ;_;

i get random twitters and followers too, so i protected my tweets when the randoms started to get super annoying.

You could get one of the cool Twitter apps for your iPhone, and then you could see your @replies from the randoms without having to go to the site, I think?

I follow friends, a few friends-of-friends, and musicians/industry of interest folks/Cab bots. And Rainn Wilson. So far he's the only not-in-a-band "celeb" I think I've followed that hasn't annoyed me. I don't follow any fictional characters, though I do think it's cute, creative viral marketing to have Betty Draper twittering.

A bunch of random-ass people follow me, including some fansite twitter for Zach Quinto, I guess because I keep seeing him places and I twittered about him.

I signed up but don't use it. I guess it'll take me as much time to get use to it as it did to get me use to Facebook...

I follow mostly friends.. I twiiter more than I update fbook status.. And I don't update my lj near as often. I follow a few celebs.. I do stalk a makeup artist's twitter I adore who I think is doing britneys new video but I am scared to add her. I was weird about twitter, didn't get it, then I got really into it..

I have a group of friends who live together and will tweet eachother when they are sitting next to eachother.. That's sort of obnoxious. But overall I sort of love it.

I had someone request to follow me yesterdat named TAYLOR that follows like 300 people named REESE, guys and girls. Really? That's creepy.

I twitter directly on site. I might use it via text and phone this summer while I'm working, but for now I'm rarely not around the computer (oh joys of unemployment ;( ). I follow friends I know in person, friends from LJ, and assorted celebrity types.

I do twitter search very often, but even if I loves the sentiments someone is making, I usually won't follow them. idk, twitter search is just fun for scouting how many people and how often something is being talked about.

i just follow friends and pete and joe, really. i don't follow any news feeds or anything cause i don't feel like i'd get sufficient news from a 140-character blurb. idk. :/

Mostly friends, a few ~celebrities. I think it's kind of creepy when random people follow me, but unless they're harrassing me I pay them no mind. Canadians also can't get SMS updates anymore (indefinitely, it seems), but I didn't use that even when I had the option. Mostly I use iPhone apps and TwitterFox (which also shows you @replies from people you aren't following).

i like twitteriffic for iphone and mac. for work (i run a company twitter account) i use tweetdeck, which is more customizable but also pretty overwhelming even still for me sometimes.

twitter is still one of the few places i add people who are just interesting, even if they're not famous or friends. i think bc the interaction seems relatively minor maybe? (my friends list, in comparison, is very small and very much all actual people i know.) but i only get text message tweets from close friends and a few newsy type outlets. still i end up checking at twitter.com bc all the apps in my experience have a tendency to miss things, and the more messages exchanged the greater rate of fail.

eta: i am totally enjoying reading all the responses here.

I joined for my friends and then found some celebs along the way. I added some of the random local people but de-added some of them because I found I was ignoring a lot of their twitters. I am having issues with mobile updates because there are so many people that spam twitter and have twitter conversations D: it's haaard

I follow friends and celebrities. I've random people follow me, but they were like real estate agents and a restaurant I've never even been to. But I figure, hey, if I need a discount on sushi, I'll follow them too.

I use the website and the Twitterific app on my iPhone. I haven't twittered via text in a long time. and since I use the app, I turn my "device" off so I don't get texts all day and night lol.

I use it follow certain celebs and a few friends. I'm kind of picky on who I follow, and even more picky about who I have sent to my phone (which turns out to be the same people whose Facebook statuses I have sent to my phone.) If someone posts on Twitter 3487598475 a day, I'm definitely not going to have it sent to my phone, and I probably won't follow them unless it's someone I really like.

I rarely go to Twitter.com as well, but that's because I use Twitterfox, so I get a little notification when someone I follow updates. Though I suppose that doesn't help much if you don't use the computer much...

Also, I generally find new people by looking at who my friends follow.

My account is public but so far I don't have anyone I don't know following me. Except for the few random spam ones, which you can easily tell are spam/report to Twitter if they haven't already done it themselves, which they're pretty good about.

Twitter is not for random people, for me! Tumblr is actually 'cause lots of people post pretty pics or quotes or music that I might like so. And yes, random people will add you on Twitter but I find that immensely annoying and just ignore them. :D I also recently discovered some celeb's twitters so I have added them but first it was just people from LJ. I update through TwitterFox, which is a lot more convenient so I don't have to go to Twitter or even be on Twitter at all and can do other stuff on the computer while I update. I don't use my phone at all 'cause I might find getting updates annoying so I just don't send any to my phone.

I love Twitter lots because it's easier to get to know people sometimes when they don't post lots on LJ. And a lot of times when I don't want to post, I like to spam Twitter and most of the same people see it anyway so it is awesome.

i have mostly friends from lj, but i also have the mcr guys, and fuck city and cobra starship and the cab, and two characters from 24, 'cause they're fun.

i actually just privatized my account, and blocked all the random people/companies that were following me. i just feel better that way.

I'm still a noob to Twitter! But I enjoy it, because I have LJ stage fright more often than not (idk, I have phases with it), and this way I can be like, "RANDOM THOUGHT" without having to build a post around it.

Also, I'm not at my computer very much, and Twitter is something I can do from my phone. :-)

I don't get the updates sent to me, though, because I don't have unlimited texts (I don't think...I'm on a family plan, so I have very little knowledge of what that plan actually contains, lol). I either check the mobile website, or the regular website when I *do* get online.

As far as people go, I don't want totally random people following me (*mildly* random people would be okay, maybe?) so mine is locked. All I've got friended so far are those on my flist who responded to my twitter plugging, Neil Gaiman, and Gabe Saporta. :-D I've decided I need more famous people but I don't know where to find them. (I thought about adding MCR, but I feel like they don't use it very much...?)

1. Whatever comes to my mind, random thoughts
2. So far only people I actually know + 1 celeb (Michael Muhney) and the guy who goes on tour with DCook.
3. Computer only.

so when people i'm not following randomly reply to me i rarely see it.
:(

i fill mine up with totally random nonsense in my head or when i'm bored and all by myself i dump twitter with all the stuff i would talk about to the ppl who aren't there. lol.

i have my rl frenz, a couple lj frenz (you obv) and a few celebs, as well as darth vader, jesus, and santa. lol. i also will add someone i don't know if somebody on my list keeps responding to interesting things they said. (does that make sense??) i update from my phone whenever i'm not at home or on my laptop. i do get tweets to my phone but only certain ones. my phone would srsly implode from the number of tweets i get. D= i get the random ppl and i will go check out their tweets to see if they're worth following back.

i'm not much for tweetciprocity (or w/e they call it when you follow back somebody following you). if i'm following somebody they have to keep it worth reading or i un-follow. lmao.

i use digsby for updating and checking my twitter pretty much all the time. i don't do much time on the actual site.
