well, theoretically it should be y'all, because it's a contraction of "you" & "all" and the apostrophe is replacing the "ou." (the dictionary agrees (http://dictionary.reference.com/browse/ya'll).) but you're right, it's not really a real word and it doesn't so much matter. and the ink would be ridic no matter how he spelled it.
