thank you all for the sympathy on the death of my poor iphone! i'm happy to report that i picked up a replacement yesterday, and all is once again right with the world.

speaking of all being right with the world, rumors abound that david f. cook is once again single. i would never ever wish unhappiness on him, so if he's hurting i'm sorry, but, y'know...YAY!!! my lack of affection for his [former?] ladyfriend is well-documented. now, someone send kelly clarkson to console him! ;)

scott and i saw synecdoche, new york (it's pronounced sin-eck-duh-key for other people like me who had no idea) the other night. i've always loved charlie kaufman (adaptation is one of my all-time favorite films, and being john malkovich and eternal sunshine of the spotless mind are also both high on my list) and as usual, he's written a movie that presents fairly simple truths in ways that are somewhat incomprehensible but, i think, ultimately rewarding. it was depressing in parts, and probably longer than necessary, but there were lots of parts that made my chest ache in that 'yes, that, exactly that!' kind of way. and phillip seymour hoffman is always perfect. ♥

buffy update: up to about 4.05 now, i believe. i always heard people bitching about riley but idk, i like him well enough so far. i miss angel but i assume he'll be back soon enough. oz continues to be my very favorite, but he just left and i sobbed like a sobbing thing. i know he still has some eps left tho, so i will eagerly await his return. i also kind of miss cordy - is she gone now? i wanted to hate anya but she had me in hysterics in her bunny costume and i kind of love her now. why do i have such a huge crush on giles? i feel very weird about it. xander and i need to be bff. ilhim. the mayor was a fucking awesome big bad. faith is dead to me; i know she'll come back and get redeemed or whatever but i'm pissed for what she tried to do to angel. ugh. spike is fun; i see why everyone loves him. i miss dru (sorry, lara)! spike & harmony were hilarious, tho.[/stream of consciousness]

I LOVE Buffy. Giles - it must be the accent for you... *L* Riley - YUM for me... I've always loved him. Spike... He's great, I love him too. Oz, I don't know why, I had a hard time with. Just never really connected somehow. Anya is funny! Weird as hell, but funny. :)

I never detested Riley. I mean I loved Buffy/Angel but obviously that didn't work out so well. I HATED Angelus on Buffy. Loved him on Angel though. So conflicted.

Angel is the best high school boyfriend EVER. He's hot, sweet, mature (*snort*), hot, deep...He's like a vampire prince charming ;) Edward Cullen can suck it Oh, that could get me beat. Angelus is just bad-ass. He's like the best you'd ever had but the consequenses are insane. It might just be worth it, though.
And I agree with rhymeswithpork. Watching Angel s1 whith Buffy s4 is ideal.

I didn't hate Riley but to me he's much less interesting than all the other characters.

Angel... is on his own show so... he comes back sometimes lol. I cried when Oz left too :((( Especially since it made Willow cry and I cannot NOT cry when Alyson cries.

Awww, I loved Riley. Lots of people thought he was boring and stuff, but I thought he was sweet. And very, very hot. Just like Giles, seriously. He is stupidly attractive and all...wise, and I like that.

I like, fifth the "watch Angel!" comments. I like it better than Buffy, because I'm crazy or something, but there are some great crossovers and episodes that go together and stuff.

I have some people on my flist who write reaaaaaaaaaally good Buffy fic, BTW. I can rec a few authors if you have time. One has been doing a "Choose Your Own Adventure" series. S4 ushers in my biggest ship of all freakin' time, but until you get to it, I won't name names. I'm seriously going to have to dig out my DVDs. I didn't mind Riley at first, but eventually he got so boring. I think you're about to hit the part of the series when people really started shipping Spike and Buffy hardcore, so that may be where a lot of the Riley hate came from.

i think the anti-riley was more just because he wasn't angel than anything else. he has some issues, but i never hated him. did i not tell you the graduation was the best thing evar?? yay, spike!! and yes, he & harmony were riotous together. and oh god, anya. she got on my nerves at first, but wow, was i in love with her by the end. joss actually went on record, iirc, as saying that he never had any intention of making her a regular, but emma caulfield blew him away and he had to keep her. and he was right - wait till you see what she can really do as an actress. she's amazing.

my feelings about the cook thing- and i'm a very casual fan compared to you and others; cake was kind of my only idol obsession- are as follows: we have no idea, clearly, who these people really are, we can only extrapolate from what we see. my extrapolation is that dc is a remarkable/interesting person, a person of character, and that kc is not. (that he is very talented and she is not i put in another category, fair judgment!)

seeing them together i can hypothesize that i was wrong about him, wrong about her, or that i was right about both and it's a bad match. of course i enjoy being right about my extrapolations! onward and upward. my opinions do not matter on any real level, so i don't much worry about being fair :)

oz was the best ever, ever, ever. his departure makes sense in the story arc and all, but i wish he'd stuck around. i liked riley, too, cardboard or not- he was sort of the chris rich of the buffyverse. if you have a crush on giles now wait till you get to the end of S4, omg. anya becomes an absolutely marvelous character, one i never loved entirely, but worth watching always. i hope you will post more about this as it is fun to see through new eyes.
