i'll spare you most of my stream-of-consciousness political mental meanderings and just say that i was thinking in the car today about, y'know "be the change you wish to see in the world" and how no one has ever "achieved the impossible" because they knew it was possible, which is half the battle, blah blah blah there's rhetoric even in my own head. and i rarely have my ipod on shuffle because as i said the other day, i don't know what half the shit on there even is, but i did today and this song came on, and it's always touched me and some of it just seemed so appropriate, because altho he's speaking about racial relations, i feel like it applies to more than that, just the need for unity and peace and basic human understanding, red states versus blue states, the u.s. versus the world, etc. so.

i got love for my brother but we can never go nowhere
unless we share with each other
we gotta start makin' changes
learn to see me as a brother instead of 2 distant strangers
and that's how it's supposed to be
how can the devil take a brother if he's close to me?
i'd love to go back to when we played as kids
but things changed, and that's the way it is.

...

we gotta make a change--
it's time for us as a people to start makin' some changes.
let's change the way we eat, let's change the way we live
and let's change the way we treat each other.
you see, the old way wasn't working so it's on us to do
what we gotta do...to survive.

and still i see no changes, can't a brother get a little peace?
it's war on the streets & the war in the middle east...

Y'know, I'm not around these parts very often anymore. Busy/crazy/life whatever, but I always read your posts and you *always* make me smile.

:)

Wow. So did I miss the memo about today being "Return to 1999 day"? Because...yeah. That shit I posted about eariler coupled with this song just took me straight back(this in a very good, positive way). I actually got a bit teary listening to the song(it's been a LONG time. I forgot how much I love it). It made me remember how idealistic and optimistic I used to be, to be honest. And it makes me want to rediscover that side of myself.

On top of this song(and the other, less awesome thing), I finally watched the "Yes We Can" video last night and I find myself inspired for the first time in years. It seems like life keeps handing me little clues, tiny insignificant details that are triggering feelings and emotions I haven't seen in awhile. It feels kinda good, actually.

Oops. I totally just spilled my shit all over your journal. Sorry, bb! I guess this just really struck a chord with me today. Thanks for posting it. ILU! ♥

ok, i hadn't seen your entry until just now, so i responded to all of that in your journal to keep it more private. but again, ilu. <333333

i've watched that "yes we can" video, like, 5 times and i cry every single time.

i'm so hopeful, you know? it's been almost 8 years now of total political fuckery and disappointments and frustration, and i just...i want so badly for things to be better, and recently i've finally started to think that they can be, and they will be.
