and the holy dove was moving too.
Mar. 18th, 2008 01:58 ami promised this to
livehead16 several weeks ago and i'm finally getting around to doing it. after jason castro sang "hallelujah" on american idol, lara said she wasn't terribly familiar with the song, and since it's one of my absolute favorite songs in the history of ever, i am going to spam her (and the rest of you!) with several versions.
i actually used to have more (i know i had covers by regina spektor and...marc broussard, maybe?), but i lost a ton of stuff in The Great Harddrive Crash of Aught-Six and never recovered it all. so, if anyone has other versions that they'd like to share, pass them along! :D
and every breath we drew was 'hallelujah'...

leonard cohen. (the original; very different from most covers you hear)
jeff buckley. (oh, the pain...many consider this the definitive version of the song)
k.d. lang. (so beautiful...tied with buckley's for my favorite version)
rufus wainwright. (fairly straightforward, but it's rufus so of course it's awesome; this was the version in shrek)
imogen heap. (very spare and a capella; this played in the oc S3 finale when marissa died)
damien rice. (just got this tonight - lovely acoustic guitar version)
bob dylan. (found this tonight by mistake while looking for a non-itunes version of jeff buckley; listening to it now and it's pretty awesome)
