2008 concerts
Bands seen [that i wanted to -- or at least didn't mind watching --, not suffered through, in approximate order of frequency]: david cook, panic at the disco, the cab, cobra starship, fall out boy, butch walker, jack's mannequin, my chemical romance, conor oberst, gym class heroes, metro station, the academy is..., taking back sunday, motion city soundtrack, phantom planet, alanis morissette, matchbox twenty, the complaints, say anything (it was half a song during warped but fuck it, i'm counting it), to have heroes, bob dylan, the swell season, forever the sickest kids.
Top 5 shows of the year?
01. david cook album release show @ the HRC in times square. (just a special moment for me, idk.)
02. fall out boy album release show @ the nokia theater in times square. (FALL OUT BOY!)
03. my chemical romance @ madison square garden. (epic show plus i had bina!)
04. jack's mannequin @ warped in miami. (glorious.)
05. butch walker @ the blender theater in gramercy. (butch is always perfection.)
Total number of shows? i'm going to guess around 30.
First show of the year? january 17; cobra starship (the really really ridiculously good-looking tour) @ revolution hall in troy, new york.
Last show of the year? december 30; david cook and his band @ jet nightclub (the mirage) in las vegas, nevada.
Most surprising show? probably conor, only because...i mean, i love his music, but i wasn't sure if he'd be particularly engaging live. but he really, really was.
Most disappointing? uh. the academy is... maybe? not because they were bad, but because we got uber-squashed in the pit and they didn't play the stuff i most wanted to hear. *shrug* i usually have fun at shows, idk!
Farthest traveled? anaheim, california, for those gay hippies with beards (aka the disco).
States attended shows in? new york, california, nevada, florida, rhode island, oklahoma, new jersey.
Venue most visited? uh. i guess the hard rock in times square. i was only there twice, tho.
Worst injury? nothing noteworthy.
Most expensive ticket? probably some broker tickets for the AI tour.
Band seen the most? david cook (11, i think).
Best new discovery? like, that i actually saw in concert? david cook and to have heroes. best new discoveries in general: mgmt, ludo, mwk.
Bands seen this year that also broke up this year? phantom planet.
Friends made at shows? i didn't really *make* friends at shows. i met up with lots of them, tho!
Band members met? all of the cab. all of cobra. all of the disco. a couple of the dudes from phantom planet. david cook (sort of). andy skib, neal tiemann, joey clement.
Best souvenir from a show? my stupid admission bracelet from dfc's album release, which i am still wearing six weeks later.
Longest time in line? waiting for dfc's album release show - something like 10 hours, oy.
Bands seen from the barricade/front row: to have heroes, david cook.
Biggest crowd? probably my chem at madison square garden.
Shows you wanted to see but didn't? every other show that david cook, fall out boy, butch walker and jack's mannequin played. also, bamboozle.
Any drunk encounters? i was vaguely drunk when i quasi-met david cook. he appeared out of nowhere and shook my hand, and i exclaimed "what the fuck?!?!" the second he got past me. /o\ i also was generally ridic at the to have heroes show, and at the 2nd night of AI in newark. oh, and i was a hot hot mess at the rockband show in orlando. SO MANY LIGHTS.
Top 5 best 2008 concert moments:
1. dfc crying in newark when the crowd sang 'time of my life' back to him.
2. dfc's entire set in tulsa.
3. dfc stopping during 'light on' at the david wright benefit to squee over our glowsticks.
4. the end of the last show of the HCT. total pandemonium and love.
5. when butch walker's guitar strap broke and he sat on stage, balanced his mic on a music stand, and finished his song.
6. getting to say hi on neal's voicemail at the THH show. :P
Top 5 worst 2008 concert moments:
1. missing most of the cab's set at the RRRGLT in miami. or fort lauderdale. wherever it was.
2. douchey douchey bros right behind me and trying like hell to get in front of me at the FOB show.
3. being bored by bob dylan. :/
4. kristy lee cook at the AI tour. just...not for me.
5. when any of them ended!
*I'm modifying this to add: shows you WANT to see in 2009* not counting bands i've already seen and intend to see again: U2, p!nk, mgmt, ludo.
