not gonna lie, it would take a crowbar to pry me away from my oxford commas. i think it's b/c when i was in elementary school we were taught to use them, but then when i got older all of a sudden there was this rule change and they weren't necessary anymore. that just seemed wrong to me so i refused to let them go. if it had been the other way around and i had been taught not to use them, i bet seeing someone use them would look wrong to me. i often do things like this though: "we went to the store, the salon, around the corner, etc." no ands or oxford commas, just a random etc. at the end. pretty much avoids the whole thing but i have a feeling it is technically not proper.
i have bigger grammar battles to fight within myself though, like conquering my addiction to ellipses. and semi-colons; i use those a lot too. (c wut i did there? lol.) problem is when i lay off the semi-colons i tend to replace them with a comma; i know it's incorrect but i do it anyway and i don't know why. it irks me to see it done too much, yet i only add to the problem. oh, and starting too many sentences with 'and,' when it should only be used as occasional emphasis. i should also lay off the fragments too, but 95% of the writing i do these days is just blogging or posting comments so proper grammar, punctuation, capitalization, ETC. (jeebus help me) tends to fall by the wayside. (i think i miss the days when i used to care.)
