so what? i'm still a rockstar.

so i have a playlist on my ipod of girl songs that i can sing to in the car at the top of my lungs and pretend that i'm a rockstar, and i'm looking to expand it.

stuff on there currently includes:
misery business by paramore
who knew by pink
walk away by kelly clarkson
alone by heart
bad boyfriend by garbage
walk over me by dirtie blonde

eta: also celebrity skin by hole and just a girl by no doubt. :D

...there's more but those are my favorites for imaginary rockstarring.

so...suggest things to me, flist! what songs do you like to sing as loud as you can and toss your hair around and feel ~fierce~ and shit? i prefer stuff that's more rockish than pure pop so i'm not really looking for britney. *sideways glance at kat XD*

uploads are lovely but if not just tell me and i'll find them!

thx bbs! <3

i am constantly blasting carly's "bring me to life" and "crazy on you" from the tour.

download links are here. the ones i took that have the best quality are the "bring me to life" from tacoma and the "crazy on you" from vegas. ♥

It's cheesy and it's way overdone, but Bitch/Meredith Brooks gets me everytime it plays on the radio (That I'm a bitch, I'm a lover, I'm a child... song).
I need to actually find the damn song to upload it, in the meantime, youtube (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=rhfiiGGy7Ls)

[identity profile] http://users.livejournal.com/_workinprogress/ 2008-10-13 08:16 pm (UTC)(link)
For anger management moments, I recommend Violet/Hole. (Though that can go either way. And probably isn't what you're looking for :)

oh, that's a good one, actually! i don't mind cheesy and overdone if it's also awesome. :P

Probably more *pop* than you're looking for, but Xtina's "Can't Hold Us Down" makes me feel ~fierce~
Pink- U and Ur Hand
Heartbreaker/Love is a Battlefield/Hit Me With Your Best Shot - Pat Benetar
Bad Reputation / I Love Rock and Roll- Joan Jett
Take it Off- The Donnas

I could upload them for you, but I'm at work. =P

Mass Romantic & Letter from an Occupant - The New Pornographers
Rebel Girl - Bikini Kill. Anything by them really. Same goes for Le Tigre.
Anything by Blondie? I like to sing along to the rap in Rapture when I'm walking, haha.
OH MAN ANYTHING BY THE LONG BLONDES. Start with Only Lovers Left Alive, it's my favorite.
ANYTHING DRESDEN DOLLS. Pretty much any of the more uptempo songs off of Yes Virginia are awesome for singing along.
Standing in the Way of Control - The Gossip
Chick Habit - April March
Let Me Blow Yr Mind - Eve & Gwen Stefani

I'm in a hurry right now, but if you want uploads (or, um, more specifics on songs) for any of these, let me know and I'll do it when I get back later :D

thanks for all the suggestions! \o/

*goes on downloading spree*

[identity profile] shibaiko.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 12:42 am (UTC)(link)
it's everything i didn't know i desperately wanted, lol.

That was pretty much EXACT reaction when I first heard them. I'm glad you approve!

Also, this morning I was listening to the radio, and I heard So What followed immediately by Celebrity Skin, and I thought of this post and was like, WHOA.

A mix of the guys and girls, but still way too much fun to belt out all the damn time:
ABBA - Does Your Mother Know

Can't go wrong with Cabaret:
Natasha Richardson - Cabaret

I know there' stigma attached to Cher but try not to dance to Train of Thought!
Cher - Train of Thought

I miss the early 90s:
Concrete Blonde - Joey

I adore the remix of this song. The original is okay, too, but this is my recommendation:
Cyndi Lauper - Shine

Don't let the gays have this one all to themselves!
Diana Ross - I'm Coming Out

Predictable but terrific:
Dusty Springfield - Son of a Preacher Man

My absolute new favorite song:
Emiliana Torrini - Jungle Drum

When you just wanna belt along with some sultry tunes:
Fiona Apple - Shadowboxer

More music I originally discovered from Queer As Folk:
Heather Small - Proud

One of the greatest songs ever written:
Janis Joplin - Piece of My Heart

Another cliche, but still good:
Jefferson Airplane - Somebody to Love

If this isn't girl power, I don't know what is:
Mama Cass Elliot - Make Your Own Kind of Music

A little mellower but still good sing-along:
Natalie Merchant - Thank You

'Twas ne'er a fiercer song than this:
Nina Simone - Please Don't Let Me Be Misunderstood

WE ARE STRONG!
Pat Benetar - Love is a Battlefield

I would marry Regina's voice:
Regina Spektor - Us

Also, you should check out The Ting Tings - Great DJ. I'd have uploaded it as well, except I got my copy from the free iTunes download, making it a protected .m4p file that would useless to upload for you.

ahhhhh, THANKS BB!!! *downloads furiously*

Most of the stuff on my driving playlist is pop, heh. I've got "Misery Business" by Paramore too and "Since U Been Gone" by KC. I don't know if you're into country in the slightest, but if you wanted to try some...I love singing along to "Our Song" and "Picture To Burn" by Taylor Swift. (Mostly because I think I can sing about as well as she can. :P) "Picture To Burn" is definitely the ~fiercer~ of the two.

This is a pretty fierce rocker chick song IMO: "Volcano Girls" by Veruca Salt (http://www.mediafire.com/?lnlpuddmdid)

Oh, and there's also a really good rock remix of "I Kissed A Girl" by Katy Perry on iTunes. And her cover of "Use Your Love" by The Outfield is awesome. I can upload it if you want!

taylor swift isn't really my speed, but A+++ call on the veruca salt! thanks! <3333

i'd love the katy perry, whenever you have a chance.

[identity profile] howveryasif.livejournal.com 2008-10-16 04:10 am (UTC)(link)
Ok, it's on my other computer back home, so I'll upload it for you this weekend! Unless you find it somewhere else before then. :)

Christina Aguilera, especially Still Dirrty, Keeps Getting Better, and Slow Down Baby (I belt this song out everytime it comes on)
Katy Perry - Hot 'N Cold
Kelly Clarkson - Never Again

[identity profile] faith21.livejournal.com 2008-10-15 12:49 am (UTC)(link)
you're welcome!! i love finding new music, especially stuff that you can rock out to in the car.

[identity profile] lillijulianne.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 01:00 am (UTC)(link)
you have a bunch of mine already! "celebrity skin" and "who knew" and "alone" and "just a girl." my kelly song is "since u been gone"- my daughter and her friend and i always sing that as loud as we can if it comes on. also, um, avril lavigne, "sk8r boi." i'm not proud. somebody mentioned "bitch" by meredith brooks and i totally confess to that one too.

more...no doubt, "spiderwebs." garbage. "only happy when it rains." pretenders, "mystery achievement" and "stop your sobbing" and really anything from the first album. go-gos, "how much more" and "our lips are sealed" and really anything from THEIR first album, plus belinda's "heaven is a place on earth." "stevie nicks, "edge of seventeen" and "stand back." blondie, "hangin' on the telephone." cyndi lauper, "money changes everything-" this is FIERCE. a bunch of madonna but that's REALLY pop.

[identity profile] anglichanka.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 01:42 am (UTC)(link)
I have "Walk Over Me" on my "delirious" playlist- so much fun to scream out loud! And Lyla Garrity! I've also been screaming out Brandi Carlile's "The Story," and songs by The New Pornographers and The Long Blondes. The latter group has a bunch of songs with shouty choruses.

[identity profile] fluffers.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 03:21 am (UTC)(link)
I love chick-mixes. Here's a bunch of suggestions, let me know if you (or anyone else readin this) want me to upload any of these:

All Saints - I Know Where It's At
Hope 7 - Breakthrough (LOL, yesssss. I'm so cool)
Joss Stone - Super Duper Love
Liz Phair - Extraordinary
Brie Larson - She Said
Leona Naess - Mexico
it's not girls singing, but Starting Line's cover of JLo's "I'm Real" is brilliant
Salt N Peppa - Shoop XD
Carly Simon - You're So Vain
Lita Ford - Kiss Me Deadly
anything by Garbage, really, or Hole, or Save Ferris
En Vogue - Free Your Mind
pretty much the entire Legally Blonde soundtrack
Gemma Hayes - Something in My Way
Sarah Slean - Day One
any Yeah Yeah Yeahs
Juliana Hatfield
Smith - Baby It's You (hawt retro tune, it's on one of the Grindhouse soundtracks)
Bitter:Sweet - Dirty Laundry
Rogue Traders - Voodoo Child
Alphabeat (who are pretty damn poppy, but in that awesome Swedish new-ABBA way)
New Pornographers (anything with Neko on vocals)
anything by Sohodolls
Charlotte Sometimes
The Duke Spirit - The Step and the Walk

[identity profile] liza1131.livejournal.com 2008-10-14 02:13 pm (UTC)(link)
I second the rec for Christina Aguilera's "Can't Hold Us Down" and would also add "Fighter" to the list.

And Alanis Morrisette's "You Oughta Know".
