mr. washington goes to treatment.

isaiah washington enters "treatment"

Isaiah Washington has entered a treatment facility. This is what sources connected to ABC and Touchstone have confirmed to me, after Life & Style magazine broke the story about an hour ago.

According to my ABC sources, one of the options the higher-ups at ABC/Disney had been considering was to release Washington from the cast of Grey's Anatomy, without giving him a farewell episode. However, I'm told by an insider that Washington agreed to do "whatever it takes" to keep his position at Grey's and to make amends with the gay and lesbian community. He also vowed to seek help for his psychological issues—hence, his entry into a treatment facility this morning.

there's also statements from shonda, isaiah and the president of glaad. i personally think it's lame - he's going into counseling to learn to not be an arrogant, homophobic douchebag? that sounds like a personality flaw to me, not a psychological issue. :x they should fire his ass.

thoughts?

they should fire his ass. YES! *high fives* My thoughts exactly.

Does this mean that new eps will my gloriously burke-less?

When I think of treatment facilities, I picture rehab.

I don't see how you can go to rehab in order to not be a homophobe.

I still think he should be fired. Feh.

I didn't know they had rehab for asshole syndrome. The things you learn.

I'm not surprised he's staying on the show, sadly, but I am pretty appalled at Shonda's statement. NO ONE aside from Katherine Heigl has shown any real support of TR Knight, and she's "applauding" IW now? What. the. hell.

[identity profile] blushingblaze.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 09:00 pm (UTC)(link)
Ummm. A treatment facility? So, is there a rehab program for being an ass clown now? Maybe a little pill you can take to stop jackassery? How do I sign people up, becasue if that's the case I have a list of about 30 people that could use some "treatment". The hell?

I just think this entire situation is just growing bigger than it should. It was uncalled comment from Isaiah to even discriminate against a co-stars sexual orientation, and should've just immediately apologized without all this media attention. Or, better yet, just kept his damn mouth shut.

There is no way getting "psychological treatment" is going change what he said or his personal opinions. He doesn't need freaking therapy, he needs to understand the meaning of tolerance no matter what you disagree with. Remember the old saying, "if you don't have anything nice to say, don't say anything at all"? Isaiah pretty much fucked everything up after this incident, and people will look at Burke in a completely different light. They now see the person behind the character, and it's pretty ugly. I think getting fired is the least of his worries, because this whole incident will follow his career indefinitely.

the next article to come out is going to be like, "heigl & knight on strike"

[identity profile] saint-renegade.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 09:31 pm (UTC)(link)
Don't you like have to be I dunno, ADDICTED to something to go to rehab? Call me crazy but I thought that was the whole concept.

Unless he's addicted to being an asshole. I don't know.

I think Grey's Anatomy could best serve the public entertainment by exploding. The show itself is mediocre. The fact that it won the GG for Best Drama is eye-rolling (at best). Yes, it's in its heyday, but it's only going to get soapier and more melodramatic from here on in. Obviously it needs to go down in a big giant flaming ball of controversy and infighting. That would rule.

This will not happen. Alas.

[identity profile] truffle-shuffle.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 09:57 pm (UTC)(link)
They should have fired his ass months ago when he CHOKED PATRICK DEMPSEY. That is unacceptable behavior, and added to it is the homophobic slurs, which didn't make things any better. He sucks, and I want him off my show.

[identity profile] xrogue81.livejournal.com 2007-01-24 10:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Uh... treatment?
What? Lame attempt to clear his name. Anyway... for some reason agreeing to go to treatment makes him look more douche-baggy to me. Fire his ass.

I rarely watch Grey's Anatomy nowadays because it conflicts with Scrubs, but when I do catch a rerun, I cringe everytime I watch a scene with IW and TR. It makes my chest hurt.

God, I really can't stand him. *hugs T.R.* I think he's an ass and has handled this entire situation in the worst way possible. I can barely stand to watch him in a scene on GA now.

I'm so very tired of this routine.

Get caught being a bigoted asshole ----> get your ass handed to you ----> Say you're "meeting with" groups you offended so they can learn ya and stuff ----> Apologizing profusely and with questionable sincerity to the world but probably not the people you hurt ----> get treatment or counseling.

It all rings so damn hollow. It's about spin and image and like..in this case...it's not like he's been so unexposed to homosexuality thus far and all he needs to do is hang out with folks so he can learn tolerance. He managed to hold onto his bigotry all this time, I don't see him losing it in his heart and mind. He'll just swallow it publicly, so he can be The Good Guy. Same with Michael Richards. Same with Mel Gibson. Same with any other douche who's gotten caught showing their true colors.

I'm not sure I understand the rehab...rehabilitation from being a shitty guy? Damn, I've got some ex's and a few friends I should send there.

Seriously as much as I love Christina/Burke...fire that man. I can't watch the show without thinking about it. Especially the George/Burke scenes.

LOL that would have been hilarious if he was just gone without so much as a farewell episode. Also, this is how I see the following sentence (from the quote):

Washington agreed to do "whatever it takes" to keep his position at Grey's (and to make amends with the gay and lesbian community)

[identity profile] diamondrocker.livejournal.com 2007-01-25 02:45 am (UTC)(link)
Pfffft. What a crock.

[identity profile] leila82.livejournal.com 2007-01-25 05:57 am (UTC)(link)
I agree with you. I think he has anger management issues, and perhaps he needs treatment for that, but…I think this is a case of too little too late.

[identity profile] spookygal.livejournal.com 2007-01-25 08:59 am (UTC)(link)
You know John Mayer said in an interview that making is character gay would be a better punition than firing him! How awesome is that?

Seriously, I really thought it's stupid to go to a psychologist because he is homophobic. It's not like something you can "cure". You are tolerant and open-minded, or your not. Period.

It's like he has forgotten that people have also fought for African American to have the same rights and respect as everybody else.

[identity profile] magicalvamp.livejournal.com 2007-01-25 01:06 pm (UTC)(link)
I do not watch GA , but I like TR a lot. It's amazing how I don't watch this show and I felt like smaking IW really hard. What he did is unforgivable. I don't think his career will recover from this, and frankly I don't care. He will always be an arrogant homophobic to me.

[identity profile] wordsaremyfaith.livejournal.com 2007-02-01 09:11 am (UTC)(link)
I totally think he should be fired, but at least they're doing something.
